Analyst predicts big pot sales over Memorial Day weekend

DENVER — BDS Analytics Inc., a Boulder-based cannabis market intelligence and research company, is predicting a major boost in cannabis sales over the Memorial Day weekend when the unofficial start of summer coincides with a rollback of COVID-19 restrictions.

Fridays are typically one of the busiest for retail pot shops, a phenomenon that’s likely to be exacerbated by the upcoming three-day weekend, according to BDSA. The Friday before Memorial Day weekend has been the year’s best for sales in the past.

“The return to ‘normal’ drives BDSA’s prediction that 2021 [Memorial Day Weekend] sales will be unprecedented,” according to a short fact and predictions document sent to subscribers.

BDSA also suggests that this summer could be a turning point for cannabis beverages.
