Firstate Bank breaks ground in Loveland

LOVELAND — Firstate Bank and McWhinney Enterprises are moving forward in a joint partnership to build a new Firstate Building at the Global Technology Center in Loveland.

Ownership of the 20,000-square-foot building will be equally shared between the two entities, and approximately 5,000 square feet of it will be occupied by Firstate, while the rest is leased out. Construction of the new facility began in mid-June, and eight to 10 employees at Firstate’s current Loveland branch expect to move into the new building within the next nine months, President Tim Wiens said.

“We just think that the whole Rocky Mountain Village development and master plan out there is an absolute winner and will be a real magnet in Northern Colorado,” Wiens added. “We’ve helped [McWhinney Enterprises] with financing along the way and want to be a bigger part of it. We’ve just broken ground. McWhinney and Firstate are joint partners in this, and it’s just going to be a great facility.”

Firstate Bank of Northglenn filed its original charter in 1974. The bank is owned by the Wiens family — Tim Wiens and his father, Joel — and currently has branch locations in Greeley, Fort Collins, Loveland and Longmont. Each Firstate branch is managed by its own branch president, which allows each location to function like a community bank, Wiens said.
