City prairie dog management plans

Lafayette: Has no formal management plan. If the Rothman property is accepted for relocation, it will be the city’s first colony to manage on city open space.

Boulder: A prairie dog habitat conservation plan was adopted March 1996. The resulting preserve system includes approximately 4,600 acres in seven habitat conservation areas. The plan became the model after which the county formulated its plan.

Louisville: Working with Wild Places to relocate dogs on a case-by-case basis.

Broomfield: Has formed a task force and is trying to hire a wildlife biologist to survey city open space. Planning department encourages developers to relocate prairie dogs, but has no formal requirement.
