Public Service offers homeowners several low-cost tips to save energy

DENVER – Now that the first snow of the season has brought a taste of winter, Public Service Co. of Colorado is offering a few tips on how to keep your home warm and still keep energy costs down.

For health reasons and to prevent unnecessary costs, have a heating contractor service your furnace and keep your furnace clean by changing it monthly during the winter. Turn down your thermostat at night and when you are out, but not off to prevent pipes from freezing.

Make sure windows and doors are properly sealed to prevent unnecessary heat loss and insulate ceilings, walls and floors over unheated areas. And finally, if you have an extra freezer, it is recommended that you keep it full; a full freezer uses less heat than an empty one. For more tips on energy saving, call the Public Service brochure line at (303) 571-2734 and select the third option for the “60 Ways to Cut Costs and Consumption” brochure.

In addition to these tips, Public Service has teamed up with E-Star Colorado to provide customers with comfort audits and information on low-cost options to improve energy efficiency. And for an additional monthly fee, Public Service is offering an appliance maintenance and improvement plan through RepairCare Appliances.
