Firstate Bank changes name to FirsTier Bank

“As we expand within the Denver metro area and Colorado Front Range markets, it was evident that we needed to rename the bank in order to avoid confusion with other similarly named banks,” bank President and Chief Executive Officer Timothy Wiens said in a prepared statement.

Since 1995 the bank has opened 14 new branches.

The board of directors of FirsTier Corp., formerly First Western Corp., a Northglenn-based multi-bank holding company with branches in Lafayette, Boulder and Longmont, announced the change, effective Nov. 1, in late October.

FirsTier Bank will continue to operate under the management of the Wiens family of Westminster and Loveland. The Wiens purchased the bank in 1993 when it had a single location and $22 million in assets. Today, bank officials operate 15 branches along the Front Range and manage more than $550 million in assets. Plans include opening two new branches before Jan. 15.

FirsTier Corp., also with headquarters in Northglenn, was founded in 1963 and has assets of about $630 million.

The main bank in Northglenn was chartered in 1974 as Adams County Bank and has operated as an independent community bank for more than 25 years.
