Fraudulent UI claims now outpace real claims, state labor agency says

DENVER — The Colorado Department of Labor and Employment now believes that the number of fraudulent claims for unemployment benefits to the agency outnumbers the amount of legitimate claims.

9News reports that the agency only paid out $6.56 million to fraudulent claims versus more than $7 billion to legitimate claimants, but immense pressure on the agency’s call centers mean some claimants have struggled to get incorrect fraud flags removed from their requests.
