LAKEWOOD — The parent company of iconic restaurant Casa Bonita, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
Summit Family Restaurants Inc. filed for bankruptcy in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Arizona, April 6, listing assets of $1 million and liabilities of $4.4 million, according to documents filed with the bankruptcy court.
Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection allows a business to reorganize its debts to remain in business.
Casa Bonita achieved widespread renown after it was featured in an episode of South Park in 2003.
The restaurant closed in March 2020 during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic.
